Australian permanent residency seems not accessible to many international students

Australian permanent residency seems gradually slipping from many international student’s hands. The latest Australian skilled visa invitation round result indicates the real Australian permanent residency visa 189 is not impossible but very hard to get. On November round the Department of Home Affairs only invited 250 candidates to apply for a subclass 189 visa. This is the point tested visa which allows candidates to live and work in Australia forever. As it’s an independent stream candidate no need to live in a particular state and can apply for citizenship once meet the criteria.
Though the results made public some week later, the invitation round for November 2019 took a couple of days before new regional visas came into effect. The round result indicates it’s time to go regional.

In November 2019 around the department invited 130 candidates who claimed 85 points on SkillSelect. Another 65 candidates invited on their 90 points and there were 45 candidates on 95 points and 10 with 100 points. Candidates who claimed 90 points on SkillSelect for Accountants before 10 April 2019 5.53 pm were invited to apply for a subclass 189 visa. Similarly, Auditors, Company Secretaries, and Corporate Treasurers invited on 85 with a date of effect 19/06/2018 3:18 pm.

The invitation round shows there are no more backlogs for all pro-rata occupation with 85 or more points on SkillSelect. The majority of those occupations has a date of effect this year except Auditors, Company Secretaries, and Corporate Treasurers.
