You may have consulted or is looking for some education provider for his services. They are required to guide you for insurance as well. This is so because if in case you are not covered by health insurance, you will be breaching the visa conditions and thus it can spoil the whole plan of yours.  This part of your procedure for staying in Australia is covered by Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Your education provider can arrange for your health insurance but there are some points in here that you must take notice of and be very careful about it. These include the full knowledge about who is your health insurance provider and also it is advisable to do a little research about its efficacy and reputation. Also, give proper attention to the type of policy you are opting for and the time of which it covers you. Ideally, it should cover you at least until the time your course will continue. You may choose for an extended plan in case you plan to stay for the purpose of a job as well.

However, there are some exceptions that are allowed in this regard. You do not need an OSHC if in case you belong in any of the following categories:

  • a Norwegian student covered by the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme
  • a Swedish student covered by Kammarkollegiet
  • a Belgian student covered under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia.
