Australia canceled thousands of student visas

The Australian government has cracked thousands of international student visas and further thousands of international students were blocked to enter Australia. As per the recent reports, the government has canceled more than 3000 student visas and sent international students back their home. And, further 13,000 students blocked to enter Australia. During the latest crackdown on a student visa and illegal working in Australia government took such a step.

In recent, Australia government has strengthened its migration process for international entrants. As the national election approaching the Australian government has announced crucial changes in its immigration intake and policy. The Australia government is set to introduce new population policy soon. 

 Australian Prime Minister Scot Morrison has said a couple of times he will overhaul the Australian Visa system and send immigrants to regional area stating, “the roads are clogged, the buses and trains are full… schools are taking no more enrolments” in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. He further plans to cut down the migration intake saying major Australian cities is already struggling to cope with the growing population.

A report on Adelaidenow.com.au mentions that the Home Affairs Department is reviewing international student’s activities weekly to ensure whether student’s work rights are rorted or not. Latest Home Affairs data shows 19 international student visas were canceled on for assault and drug-related criminal activities. International students not enrolling a course for that the visas were granted as well as failing to pass the course and maintain the visa conditions are under immigration scanner.

As per the statistics, at the end of June, there were 487,000 student visa holders in Australia. For Australia, Nepal stands as the third source country for the international student. In the year 2017-18 26,579 Nepalese students were granted student visa to study in Australia. China and India remain first and second source country for international students for Australia.
