Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government has introduced a new merit system for its skill migration. The ACT Government Canberra is expected to reopen the nomination process from 29 November 2018 with Canberra Matrix as a new expression of interest for Canberra 190 nomination. As per the information shared by the government, ACT has about 500 places remaining of 2018-2019 program year to nominate for 190 visa. The ACT government will run invitation rounds for nomination using the Canberra Matrix from December 2018.
With this new Canberra Matrix, applicants have to submit their EOI for Canberra 190 nomination complete the Canberra Matrix. To complete this they do not need to submit documents and no need to pay a fee for it. ACT government will invite an applicant for nomination based the points they score in the matrix. The validity of the Canberra Matrix is SIX months and the points claimed would be frozen at the time of submission and not available to update information and removed from the system after that period. As per the information shared by ACT government, there are 12 different factors that will determine your points on this merit-based nomination system on the Matrix, they are the Length of residence in ACT (Canberra), English language proficiency of applicant, Spouse/partner English language proficiency, and Nominated occupation (open or closed), Length of current employment in Canberra (not tied to nominated occupation), ACT employment type, Spouse / Partner employment in Canberra, Education (can be in Canberra, interstate or overseas), Canberra education, Grandfathering of applicants who arrived to live in Canberra on or before 29 June 2018), Assets in Canberra (personal or business and unencumbered), and Close family ties to Canberra.
