Australia is very lucrative to students all across the globe for being a world-class place to get the education. Adding another feather to this hat is the latest approval that the state has gotten for exporting medicinal cannabis product. With this approval, Australia is all set to become the world’s largest exporter of Cannabis. Cannabis is soon going to become the newest cash crop of Australia.
Allowing the nation to export this medicinal product, the step is going to help the developing domestic market grow at a fast pace. Health Minister Greg Hunt said in a statement made to media, “By helping the domestic manufacturers to expand, this, in turn, helps to ensure an ongoing supply of medicinal cannabis products here in Australia”. He further hopes that with efforts put in the right direction, Australia can be the world’s top supplier of medicinal cannabis.
The export permit, however, will be done by way of regulation. Earlier in 2016, the federal government legalized patient access to Australian-grown and manufactured medicinal cannabis. But this was again subject to the local laws of the state and territory concerned. Victoria became the first state in Australia to legalize the sale of medical Cannabis and it was followed by NSW.
As per the records of the health department, around 350 patients have accessed the medical cannabis. But as far as doctors are concerned, they are apprehensive towards recommending it as a medication to the patients. This has created a wave in the opposition saying that the decision is good if proper research is done. They also highlighted cases in which Cannabis has alleviated the health of patients.
With this move, the medical industry in the country is all set to grow and hence more applications in this area from foreign students is being expected in the coming times.
