After revoking the student loans under new VET system for Careers Australia, students and staff are in a state of confusion. All the work by the education provider has been temporarily stopped for now. Students are confused about what they should do next. Questions like when will the classes be restarted, will the deposit be refunded and so on can be heard everywhere. International students are also worried about what is going to happen to their student visas.
Amidst all these confusions, the Turnball government has ensured that support is being put in place for those enrolled with Careers Australia. Since the education provider’s company now comes under voluntary administration, parts of it will be picked up by other education providers in Australia. Different parts of the program might be taken up by different organisations and discussion is still going on regarding how operations will be run. The Federal Education and Training Minister Simon Birmingham said that the education provider had tuition assurance protection through TAFE Directors Australia and hence the students will be protected even if the work gets stopped.
The Federal Education and Training Minister Simon Birmingham said to the press, “It’s important to draw the distinction that at present they’ve entered into voluntary administration.” He further added that “It is possible that some of them could be picked up by other training providers of repute and continue to provide training services around the country.”
The collapse of the education provider has affected more than 15,000 students and 1000 staff members. The Electrical Trades Union has said that students and staff will not suffer from this incident and have been promised that the training will continue as it was supposed to for the rest of 2017.
Although students and staff are not sure about what to do as of now, they have been asked to keep patience and will be informed about an update by next week. Careers Australia has 13 campuses located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
