With the recent developments in the technology field, more and more engineering requirements are coming from corporate thus there is a need for professional individuals to do this work. Engineering is required in many sectors like energy, biology, mechanics, computer science etc… In some or the other way engineering has found its importance in here. You can choose among all these industries and even more to work for a large number of roles available in these based upon your interest and the role that you want to take up.

There are varied roles available starting from core technology related work like specialist technology development to even managerial positions and commercial roles. If you are interested in commercial role a good way to go through the supply chain management side of the business. This will also help you get experience for managerial roles. Hence to decide on this you need to analyse your strengths and interest and then choose accordingly.

Education and Training

Many people are not sure as to which sector to choose in engineering to start working. So what can be done in such a situation is start working from the bottom and understand the overall industry. You can also do certificate courses which coincide with your interests and the role you want to work in. You can choose to make your career say as a tradesperson, with prospective occupations including maintenance fitter, toolmaker and fitter and machinist.

An added advantage with these courses is that there is a lot of training involved and hence you get to face the real challenges in a work place setting. If you want to get a more comprehensive idea of the industry, you may go to counselors, professionals from the industry, attend job fairs etc…and talk to the people there.

The size of your employer will really make a difference in the position you join and how much up the career ladder you can climb. People with less or no experience prefer to go for smaller employers as this helps them to learn more.

  • Travel requirements

Sometimes your job will require you to be really flexible and intense travel might also be involved. In such a case it is better to enquire about this from your employer beforehand.

  • Work environment

As stated earlier, you can choose to go to the core work or do managerial tasks. The work environment will defer in the two and you have to choose which one suits you.
