Want some free groceries? Woolworths is looking for people who will join online sampling community and in return you will get free groceries. This is part of their new testing for the supermarket’s Own Brand products.
On the online community The Bunch, the members can provide free and unfiltered reviews about the products that they have used of the brand. It had also launched a pilot program last year where more than 400 people participated. Interestingly these people saved more than $100 in a matter of few months. They got product sample like soups, ice cream, crackers, tomatoes and lamb shanks.

Gemma Howells, senior Own Brand portfolio manager at Woolworths as quoted on news.com.au everyone is eligible for joining the program. The interested people will require a Woolworths Rewards card. He said, “We’re looking for members that represent the whole of our customer base across Australia”.
New round of recruitment will start in the last week of June 2017. On being selected as a member, the person will get an email notification every time the sample are available. The member will have to then claim the sample and it will be automatically loaded into the reward card of the concerned member. The next time customer shops, on picking the same item, the cost of the item will be automatically deducted from their bill total.
The more active the member will be in terms of posting reviews, the more sample he or she will be getting. Ms Howells further said to the media, “There’s technically a gamification system, with different Bunch levels. The more you sample and review, the more people interact with you and like what you’re doing, the higher you go. At the highest level people will get a sample every other week, then on top of that are first-come, first-served samples. What we’ve seen is our most active users are getting an opportunity to sample each week. It could be anything. The whole point is variety.”
The reviews that will be posted by customers will be taken into consideration at product development stage. The members will get to sample some interesting products in their own homes. The idea becomes more effective as the customer will be in their comfort zone and hence can review the product properly.
