Australia has always been a preferred destination for global students for studying and job opportunities. The number of international students flocking to Australia has already crossed half a million in the early months of 2018 and will continue to surge as believed by a new government statistics.

The data suggest that international student numbers have grown 12 percent to 509,610 in the year to February 2018, with a 54 percent increase over the previous five years since the Coalition Government came to power in 2013. International education in Australia will continue to see a further growth if these numbers are to be believed.

In the year 2018 itself, more than 509,000 international students belonging to more than 190 countries have come to Australia for higher education. With the increase in enrolments being the highest in past few years, diversity among these students has also increased. Among the international students who have arrived this year, there are Nepal (54%), Colombia (29%), Brazil (27%), India (17%) and China (16%).

Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham said, “We are thankful that so many international students choose to enhance their knowledge and skills in Australia, providing a richer and more diverse experience for both Australian students and other international students. The Turnbull Government understands the social and economic value of international education across every part of the system from schools to ELICOS to higher education. We won’t make the same mistakes as the previous Labor Government with their erratic changes to student visas that took years for our international education sector to recover.”

Despite these surging numbers, international students face a number of issues such as minimum wages, accommodation, migration processes. There are various scams being run online which make these students their prey. The Turnbull Government is continuously focusing on making them more aware and keeping Australia as the preferred international study destination.
