On entering a job related to finance, you can expect good salaries and compensation which comes with lots of responsibilities. So one thing is sure that you will be earning well. On an entry level job like that of accounting clerk or accounting assistant, you can expect to earn between $30-$40,000 on an annual basis in the beginning. Progressing above on the career ladder usually takes time but with patience and right efforts you can go as up as an accounting manager with a salary usually greater than $100,000 annually.

Certification

You can start as early as taking accounting related courses in your college and the go on to do a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After that it will be better to do some job to get work experience.  After about one year of work experience, you will be eligible to get qualified as a Certified Public Accountants. CPA’s make substantially more money than an accountant as their training is more market oriented. As CPA you will be required to take more of management position related work and you can go up to the position of director of the accountancy department.

The type of job that you want to take up in the field of accounting depends majorly where your interest lies. At the entry level, there are many areas in which you can do work like, accounts receivable, accounts payable, assistant accountant, junior accountant and payroll clerk. A junior accountant has a little advantage over others as in this role you will not be confined to a single topic but variety of subjects like audit, business services and client cash management and taxation. So of you are entering at a very early level in your career and want to see where your interest lies, this will be a good position to start working in. You will get the idea of the whole industry. A logical thinking and knack for numbers is required too for making a name in the finance industry.
