NSW government is taking up every measure to safeguard their residents. Authorities are monitoring closely on every outdoor activity performed by the people.
Overnight the emergency ministerial gazette signed revised state law. The latest reinforcement of state rule has quietly rolled out a fine of $11,000 fines and jail of 6-months.
The rule comes to enforcement from 2020, March 31. The National Cabinet has given sweeping powers to the NSW police force to enact the latest enforcement.
According to the NSW Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement Order 2020) people are requested not to leave their premises unless its for medical reasons, exercise, work, education or for obtaining food essentials.
Under section 10 of the Public Health Act 2010, NSW police are given authorities to impose fines up to $11,000 with a maximum penalty of six-months imprisonment. A further fine of $5,500 can be issued each day for the continuous breach of law.
Likewise, businesses committing an offense to face a maximum penalty of $55,000 with an additional fine of $27,500 every day.
NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian disclosed the age group of 20 to 30 to be continuous offenders. She said,
“Can I give a message to people in their 20s and 30s — you are not immune from this and even if you are, you risk spreading it to people you love or spreading it to people in the community who are vulnerable and will lose their life because of this.”
She further added,
“Apologies to those of you doing the right thing but I need to get out the message, you can’t socialize as you used to. That is not allowed anymore.”
The harsh enforcement came to the regime after NSW recorded its 2000th case. As the sign of COVID-19 is increasing, the Australian Government has transferred the responsibilities to the State Emergency Operations Controller for the overall responsibilities of COVID-19.
